LakeXpress rolls along one month after fares are instituted
TAVARES — LakeXpress continues to attract more than 250 passengers daily after fares were instituted one month ago.
"I continue to be encouraged by the response to the LakeXpress service," said Ken Harley, Manager of the Lake County Public Transportation Division.
Fares for LakeXpress are $1 for all trips. Half-fares are available for seniors 60 years or older, students and individuals with disabilities (buses are equipped with lifts). Free fares are available for children under five years of age, which are accompanied by a fare-paying chaperone.
Also recently introduced is a line of bus passes that offer savings for repeat riders. A daily, unlimited-rides pass is $3, a 30-day, unlimited-rides pass is $30 and a 10-ride pass is $8. All passes are half-priced for seniors over 60 years, students and disabled riders. Since August, LakeXpress has sold more than 100 of the various bus passes. All bus drivers sell passes.
LakeXpress operates Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. and buses run every hour from The Villages to Eustis with a circulator route in downtown Leesburg. A downtown Mount Dora circulator route is scheduled to begin in 2008.
