TAVARES — The Lake County Department of Community Services, Public Transportation Division, is hosting its Annual Stuff the Bus campaign on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at area Wal-Mart stores.
The goal of the annual food drive is to stuff donated nonperishable food and canned goods, baby food and pet food into a bus. The Lake County Connection buses will be parked at the Wal-Mart stores in Mount Dora at 17030 U.S. Highway 441 and Leesburg at 2501 N. Citrus Blvd.
“Last year we collected more than 6,061 pounds and we hope to exceed that amount this year,” said Ken Harley, Director of the Public Transportation Division.
The nonperishable food collected during the Stuff the Bus campaign is donated to The Salvation Army, which distributes it throughout the Human Care Network, in partnership with United Way of Lake & Sumter Counties. To pack as much nonperishable food as possible into the buses, volunteers and County employees volunteering their time will be on hand at each location.
